Part of the Mahi Aroha Summer Programme: Owhango Alive is the community group responsible for bringing back abundant native plant and birdlife to the Ohinetonga Reserve through their successful and continued fight against pests.

Walk the loop track with Owhango Alive, observe the number of native tree plantings and be inspired about what people-power can do. Join in and let the team show you how it's done!

The Reserve is home to many native birds including blue duck/whio on the Whakapapa River and dabchick/weweia on the lagoon.

Grade: 1 Easiest - Little or no walking. Average fitness and reasonable health required.

What to bring:
- Warm and waterproof clothing
- Gloves and warm hat
- Sturdy walking shoes
- Sunglasses/sunscreen/hat
- Personal medication

Cancellations:
The decision to cancel a trip due to weather is often unable to be made until just before the scheduled departure time. Trips may also be cancelled a week out if the minimum participant number is not reached.

If the decision to cancel a trip is made, details will be posted on the Project Tongariro Facebook page and left in a message on the Mahi Aroha information line 0800 362 925.
